    1. Listing date and basis of presentation of results                      
                                                                              
    The Company's H Shares were listed on the Main Board of The Stock Exchange
    of Hong Kong Limited (the "Stock Exchange") on 6 February 2004. The       
    consolidated financial statements have been prepared in accordance with   
    the International Financial Reporting Standards, the disclosure           
    requirements under the Companies Ordinance of the Laws of Hong Kong and   
    the Rules Governing the Listing Securities on the Stock Exchange.         
                                                                              
    2. Earnings Per Share                                                     
                                                                              
    The basic earnings per share amount for the year ended 31 December 2004 is
    computed by dividing net profit attributable to shareholders of           
    approximately RMB574,508,000 (2003: RMB44,847,000) by the weighted average
    number of 2,138,688,751 (2003: 1,480,430,000) ordinary shares in issue    
    during the year.                                                          
                                                                              
    Diluted earnings per share amount for the two years ended 31 December 2004
    and 2003 have not been disclosed as no diluting events existed during the
