    4. Earnings per share                                                     
    The calculation of the basic earnings per share is based on the net       
    profit for the year of RMB19,034,000 (2003: RMB34,154,000) and            
    838,000,000 (2003: 838,000,000) shares in issue during the year.          
                                                                              
    Diluted earnings per share is not presented for the two years ended       
    December 31, 2004 and December 31, 2003 as there was no potential         
    ordinary shares in existence for both years.
