    2.      The calculation of basic earnings per share for the year ended 31 
    December 2004 is based on the profit attributable to shareholders of $1,  
    056,884,000 (2003: $692,686,000) and the weighted average of 1,054,985,321
    shares (2003: 1,046,494,819 shares) in issue during the period.  The      
    employee share options outstanding do not have a material dilutive effect 
    on the basic earnings per share for the year ended 31 December 2004.      
                                                                              
    3.      Following the early adoption of certain applicable Hong Kong      
    Financial Reporting Standards issued by the Hong Kong Institute of        
    Certified Public Accountants in 2004, certain comparatives previously     
    reported have been restated to conform to the new policies.
