The meaning of Punti

Dear Chunfat,

Is it only in Guangdong Province, including Hong Kong, that the
Cantonese language is called Puntihua? Elsewhere in China is it called
Guangdonghua? Do residents of other provinces in China call themselves
Puntiren in their own provinces?

Alas, Hakkas can't call themselves Puntiren as long as we are always
considered migrants. Haven't we settled long enough in those places to
be indigenous?

But of course, whether we are Guangdongren, Moiyanren, Hubeiren,
Sanghairen or any other ren in China, we must first consider ourselves
zongguoren. But if we are citizens of other countries, we must first
consider ourselves Canadians, Americans, Brazilians, French, Malaysians,
Australians and so on, then zongguoren, then guangdongren, haggaren,
Hunanren and so on.

Other opinions are welcome.
