Fw: Silence Sometimes Speak Louder Than Words

Dear Friends of Hakka Forum,

The following is my reply to Charles Louie. I would ask everybody to
consider carefully any post here may be construed to represent Hakka's
unified view, which is untrue. I also received posted messages against
Hakka from non-Hakkas. If their message is rational and free of derogatory
remarks, I would leave them on the post too. Unfortunately, I have to remove
them due to violation of the policy. For the poster "fact store", I would
invite him to write in his/her name and present his/her argument against
Hakka but leave out the fiery language. I am sure there are some useful
points buried in the hostility. And I would humbly accept any criticism from
non-Hakkas.

I wish to have different voices in this forum. as I mentioned to Charles
Louie in the following letter, I established this forum not just to promote
Hakka but to promote Chinese culture through Hakka's strong heritage. I
speak more mandarin than Hakka in daily life. My grandma is Toisan. My
mother was born n Shanghai. My wife is 1/4 Manchurian. I would like to see
different ethnic groups coexist to build a colorful Chinese culture. If this
webpage and forum have misled the audience, I would rather close it and
re-establish a China culture forum. The only reason is Professor Ming Pei
already has an excellent one (http://www.chinapage.org), which I am on the
advisory board.

The experience in the past month has demonstrated what I fear most when I
first set up this webpage, that such webpage might result in further
prejudice. This would not be productive or beneficial. I sincerely hope that
this webpage and forum can conduct what they meant for.

Different opinions are not only accepted but welcome in this forum if the
policy is observed. To avoid any misunderstanding of censorship, I am
posting my unedited reply to Charles Louie. I hope I have clarified
sufficiently.

SL Lee
