Hakkas today
This is a poem about the future of all Hakka people who live all over the
world, and especially for those who now live in Canada.
Hakkas Today, Hakkas In the Future.
Dr. Lau Chunfat, thinks our culture is dying, but is it?
My roots are Hakka. I’ve met many real Hakka people, in Canada.
Because of the net, we learn about each other bit by bit.
There are Hakkas in Tahiti, Indonesia, Malaysia, the US and China.
Hakkas in Trinidad, Jamaica, Guyana, Africa, Australia, we’re told,
Everywhere, we’re Chinese, we’re mixed, we’re all over the world,
We celebrate our vibrant language and culture, in groups, in style, in lion
dance,
At conferences, at research centres, in books, on the net, our culture, we
enhance.
Today we can communicate via internet, it’s really great,
But will our Hakka language really die, vanish or dissipate.
I think not. People have a love for their heritage, and would celebrate,
So join us, for more discussions, at the asiawind forum, and keep the faith.
Henrietta.
