Hakka events/issues in Toronto

1. There are several Hakka Associations in Toronto, or groups that have
many Hakka people. Many of these groups have a summer picnic, where all
their families and friends get together. The Hakka Youth Association
usually have a dance and they invite lots of university students to
participate.

2. There was a genealogy workshop on March 19, 2000, and 50-60 people
showed up to hear Roger Chen and his associates speak about how to do your
own family tree, it was an informative and educational seminar for those
who know little about their ancestral history. This event was a
pre-conference event, leading up to the Toronto Hakka conference, scheduled
for Dec 28-30, 2000.

3. There's another pre-conference event in Toronto scheduled for June 4,
tentatively. It's a networking session designed for the youths, to give the
youths some tips on how to network, it's also supposed to get them
enthusiastic about the conference. The networking seminar will have about 5
or 6 successful Hakka Canadians presenting and talking about themselves,
and their rise to success, it should be interesting. Also, Peter Chin, a
successful Hakka Canadian dancer will be giving a video presentation of his
work after the networking session.

4. I've decided that I would like to take some Hakka classes, and have been
trying to find a Hakka teacher. A project that I've decided that I should
take up myself and proceed with, and see how things turn out. Maybe I might
meet someone at the conference who is a qualified instructor, and who is
generous with their time, and willing to volunteer to teach Hakka in Toronto.
