Hakka and Taiwan election

Jonathan,

I was asking a question. I am trying to answer that but my answer may not
be right. I would like Hakka friends from Taiwan to comment on it. I
believe Chen failed to gain the majority of Hakka votes because of his
Independence stand. Whether it is fear of war, need of stability, or loyalty
to a unified China is unknown. But it even overrides Chen's contribution to
Hakka culture. I assume Lu is a Hakka since she was the magistrate of
Taoyuan for two terms. But even she could not win Taoyuan. This is worth
considering.

On the campaign of the candidates in Hakka counties, go to Yahoo (Chinese or
Taiwan), select news, and then use search keyword "Hakka" (in Chinese font).
There are a lot of entries. It is worth reading how the three candidates
compete for Hakka votes.
