119 is a insulting low!
Dear Mr. Chung,
Your post:
>The World Hakka Association, which held its 15th World Hakka Convention in
Malaysia from 4/11/1999 to 7/11/1999, has identified 119 famous Hakka
people ranging from the dynasty of East Jin (ªF®Ê 317AD to 420AD) to
People's Republic of China (1949AD to ?). As you are talking about Tang
poems I want to let you know that the World Hakka Association identifies
the famous Tang statesman and poet Zhang Jiu Ling (±i¤EÄÖ) a Hakka.
If we still define Hakka in this way, there are more than 500 Million
people in South China who can trace, or claim their Northern ancestry, and
fit this definition. Then 119 is an insulting low figure for "Hakka".
Don't label any dead people as Hakka if they did not identify themselves as
such, leave them in peace. Try to help your children to establish the
identity instead.
