A Hakka province stabilize to China
Dear Hakka Friends,
It seems that many of us are so traditional Hakka in the bones that timid,
conservative and tolerative are the right adjectives for them. Remember, a
province is a province, not an autonomous state or repbulic. The
establishment of Hainan province does not affect the integrety of China.
Besides there are many positive effects if we have a Hakka province.
Just look at the social and linguistic changes of Guangdong in the last 20
years. Hakka speakers gave up their mother tongue at the Cantonese-Hakka
boundary and the front is moving northeastwards at an enormous speed. If we
do nothing to stop it, Guangdong will be speaking only Cantonese at the end
of 21st Century. A large and economical strong Guangdong will stand in the
South. On the other hand, Minan and Shanghaiese will gain their territory
around them and China will split into four among the ethnic Chinese
themselves.
First, let's look when a Hakka province is there. The trend of Cantonese
spreading will be stopped and the Cantonese speaking area will be
restricted to the west of the Beijing-Guangzhou railway. Hakka Province,
albeit less populous and econmically weaker, will stop the spreading of the
arrogance of Cantonese. By the way, a smaller Cantonese speaking area and
population will be safer for China, because they will not be so easily
asking for independence.
Secondly, when the Jiaying Province is there, many Hakka speakers overseas
will invest more into the region. The economic growth will be greatly
accelerated and Hakka consciousness will be raised. Hakka will be as
important as Cantonese in the future because they are of the same rank.
According to Hakka tradition, Hakka speakers are more patriotic and support
the unity of China. It is a stablizing factor for the Southern Chinese
provinces. Keeping Hakka speaking means China is less vulernable to splitting.
Tell the Chinese leaders to consider my ideas.
