To Mr. Liu Zinfad
Dear Mr. Liu,
Just how do you propose going about the business of getting the Chinese
Government to allow the formation of a Hakka Province?
The Chinese Government had stated on many occasions that they do not
welcome outsiders to interfere with the internal affairs of China.
Therefore, the quest for a Hakka Province must come from within China.
That will mean some kind of a Hakka political movement in China. Will
the present Chinese Government look kindly to any mass organization
especially when they are trying to bring Taiwan to it's fold? Will the
Hakka people in China be ready to take the risk of a crackdown? Should
they?
Your suggestion is an ideal, Mr. Liu, and I applaud you for that, but
most ideals are usually unattainable. Therefore, other methods ought to
be looked into such as Hakka marriages, Hakka education, Hakka
associations, etc. These are grassroot actions from which Hakkas can
build on. Who knows, perhaps that Hakka Province of yours could become a
reality in the future once a solid base is in place.
