RE: hakka: Re: Hakka women
Tracy, famous confucian scholar and general Chen Kuo fan once describe Hakka
women as "Ta Jiao Po" or big-foot old lady. He was shock to see Hakka women
did not bind foot and fought in the army. Chen Kuo Fan did not like Manchu
government but he decided to throw his weight behind Manchu government as
Tai Peng army was advancing North to overthrow Manchu government. Chen
supported the Manchu government because he was afraid the new govenment (Tai
Peng government) would destroy confucian value and system as Tai Peng army
set up to establish a christian nation.
In my ancestor county, Yong Ding, Hung Xiu Chuan and his Tai Peng army once
lay seige to the county town. There were other round house buildings that
Tai Peng army stayed for a while and left their "poem" on the wall pocking
fun of Confucius. They did spare the destruction on the Confucius temple
though.
