Re: Characters, glyphs, hanzi, etc....

Dear Dylan,

Thanks for your professional comment on the nomenclature of Hanzi. I hope
this clarifies the confusion. As I recall, Mr. Chu has been using "Hansii"
instead of Hanzi all the time. I hope his use of "Hansii" instead of Hanzi
is not a renegade expression against China because Hanzi is the official
nomenclature proposed by PRC. "Hansii" itself is not the Hakka pronunciation
any way. There are proposals also to develop a Romanization of Taiwan Hakka,
so that it won't have to employ the "Chinese " characters. I believe such
extreme separatist action will not bring any promotion of Hakka culture. In
contrary it will endanger the already diminishing heritage. A
culture/civilization survives not only because of the language (although it
is an important part). It is a combination of all elements. Hakka without
reference to Chinese culture is not Hakka any more. You can't cook rice
without the grains.
