Thank you, Dixie, for a well written synopsis of "who and where" of the
Hakka people. I am particularly impressed by your mention of the Hakka
dialect's connection to Mandarin as most of what I read stressed the
connection to the Southern dialects, Cantonese in particular. Because of
the connection, is it why, I often hear, a Hakka can learn to speak
Mandarin faster than a Cantonese? Or has attitude got something to do
with it? Or is it just hearsay?

It'll be great if someone can write a similar synopsis of "folklores" of
the Hakka people.
