Dear Dylan:
Did you have chance to read the book by Professor Fong Hok-ka (Fang Xue-jia in
Mandarin) ? I believe he is the director of Hakka Institute of Ka-Yin (Jia-Yin)
University in Moi-yan. He used the hitorical population data ( I am not sure your
above data is included or not), archeological evidences and social field studies
concluded there was very few people migrated from north to south and Hakka are
primarily originated from south. He did not mention any biological data at all.
Another book from Professor Chen, Zhi-ping, Chairman of Department of History, Xiaman
University is also very interesting. I believe Dr. Lau recommended this one in Forum
before. I highly recommend these two books. They are very diligent scholars. They
did a lot of field study in different areas. Both books were first published in
China and both these two books are available in Taiwan too (traditional character
version, not simplified character).
Best regards
Albert
