Re: Deng Xiao-ping was a Hakka
Hi, Yoon Ngan,
Yes, it has been mentioned in many books written by Hakka scholars and Japanese
scholars. Guang An, where Deng Xiao ping was born, was probably named when the
Guangdong Hakka settled in during the Qing dynasty. But the best source probably
is from Deng Lin(MaoMao), Deng xiaoping's daughter. Deng XP never talked about
family stuff. The family tree was traced by Deng Lin to Jiangxi. The Deng
family moved to Sichuan in Ming dynasty. She denied that Deng was originally
name Gan Ze Gao. This biography is quite well written and I trust it is probalby
more accurate than others. Deng's mandarin bears Sichuan dialect. He probably
could not speak Hakka any more. Jiangxi JiAn is a partial Hakka settlement quite
close to 100% Hakka counties. So, it is not surprising that Deng was actually a
Hakka descendent.
