Deng Xiao-ping was a Hakka
Hello SL Lee,
According to Li3 Huang2 (Li3 =son of wood. Huang2 =King plus Yellow)
Deng Xiao-ping was a Hakka. Li3 Huang2 was the chairman of the Youth
Party in China before the liberation. After the liberation in 1951 he
went to North Borneo (now Sabah, Malaysia) and lived in Jessslton (now
Kota Kinabalu, the capital of Sabah). There, he wrote his memoir:
My Memoirs
by Li Huang.
Published by Ming Pao Monthly
651 King's Rd., Hong Kong
Tel: H616683
First Print, January 1982
two volumes.
On page 169 in volume one.
In summer 1920 Li Huang went to Marseilles (a seaport in France) to
meet the newly arrived Chinese students. There were more than 200
and 92 of them were from Sichuan province. Deng Xiao-ping, who was about
seventeen or eigthteen years old at that time, disembarked first and
reported to Li Huang who was directed to meet the students. Deng was the
leader of the Sichuan students.
According to Li Huang, Deng's students report was:
(I put it in Mandarin Piyin)
Deng4 Xiao3 Ping2,
Si4 Chuan Guang An Ren2,
Yuan2 Ji2 Guang Dong Ke4 Jia.
Graduated second batch from the
France Preparatory School of
Zhong4 Qing4
Sichuan.
According to Li Huang, Deng Xiao-ping was not called Deng Xiao-ping
but Kan3 (Chinese surname No.380) Ze2 Gao.
Kan3= Gan3 (dare) inside Men2 (door)
Ze2= Ze2 for Mao2 Ze2 Dong's Ze2
Gao= means high
And his nicknamed was Xiao3 Kan3 (little Kan3).
Every student either called him Xiao3 Kan3 or Doctor of oil printing
(He and Zhou En-lai were in charge of printing a newspaper called
Chi4 Guang or Red Light in English.)
After joining the Communist Party he changed his surname to Deng4
and his party's name was Xiao3 Ping2.
