Re: Hakka information

Daniel,

I don't know about Yang Shang Kuan. But there has been quite a few citation
about Deng Xiao Ping as Hakka. Although he might not speak Hakka nor
claim/recognize himself as Hakka. His daughter "MaoMao" (Deng Rong) wrote a
biography of Deng Xiaoping. Deng called Guang An his hometown, which had a
population boom in Qing dynasty due to settlement of outsiders. According to Mao
Mao, the ancestor of Deng family was in Jiangxi JiAn Fu, LuLing county. They
moved to Sichuan during Ming dynasty. Ji An is a partial Hakka region (according
to Chen Yun Dong's "KeJiaRen"), where Jing Gang Shan is located. A lot of the
red army soldiers came from this region were Hakka people. So, that is the
association of Deng to Hakka. Whether Deng is really Hakka would be difficult to
verify now. MaoMao's book did not confirm this.
