Hakka/Chinese in Indonesia

Dear Hakka fellows,

It is good to see that Hakka fellows are using this forum to communicate
on the improvement of our future, in addition to remember our history. In
fact the future is much more important than the past.

The anti-Chinese movement in Indonesian has been going on for years since
1960s. Many of the Indonesians of Chinese origin (many Hakkas) have been
victimized because of their success due to hardwork. Every time when
Indonesia has economic problems caused by the corruption of the Suharto
clan, the target was directed to Chinese/Hakka. 

Similar Chinese bashing movement is also occurring in US. Regardless of
whether you are from mainland China, Taiwan or Hong Kong, or Indonesia, as
long as you look like Chinese, there is discrimination around. The moral
of Navajo article is that unity is necessary for all of us to defend our
rights as immigrants and contributors to the host country (be it US or
Indonesia). Along this line, Hakka or non-Hakka Chinese are no different.
