Re: Hakka carries bones?

"the fifth son of" Huang2 Di4 (Yellow Emperor)
not "Adam" is the surname Zhang or Teoh in Hokkien
for Jonathan Teoh, our moderator. Here is my version of
the story of Zhang. Hope Jonathan will comment on it.

Surname No.24 Zhang
Zhang means : magnification; to establish.
Zhang is written as Gong (bow) + Zhang2 (superior officer).
People with this surname usually introduce themselves as Gong Chang2
(Bow Long) Zhang instead of Gong Zhang2 (superior officer in charge
of bows ) Zhang.
Surname Zhang is an ancient surname and it is over 4000 years old.

Abstract: Surname Zhang was originated in an area which was called the
Qing He2 Prefecture during the Han4 Dynasty (206BC to 220AD).
The present day location of Qing He2 Prefecture
is in Qing He2 Xian4 in Hebei province China.

The weapons used in wars during the ancient time were merely by throwing
stones. Yellow Emperor, the legendary founded of the Chinese race, invented
spears made of wood.

Yellow Emperor had twenty five sons. His fifth son was called Hui who
invented a weapon by tying a string to the two ends of a bamboo stick. He
called it Gong (bow). Later he invented the arrows made of bamboo strips.
Hui used bow and arrows to shoot and kill animals. He was the first
man in China to use bows and arrows in battles.

According to the legendary records, in 2698BC Yellow Emperor, with
the helps from the clans of Jiang and Yi2, fought a decisive battle with
the united forces of Li2 at Zhou Lu (present day Jie3 Xian4 in Shanxi
province).

During the battle the weapons used by the Li2 were just merely by
throwing stones. Whereas Yellow Emperor's troops were using wooden spears
and bows and arrows. With better weapons his troops defeated the Li even
though the Li were stronger and more numerous.

Yellow Emperor appointed his fifth son Hui as Gong Zhang2 which meant
superior officer-in-charge of the production of bows. Later Hui adopted
his official title Gong Zhang2 as his surname.

Generations later his descendants combined these two characters,
Gong Zhang2, into one which was pronounced as Zhang.
