Re: Dr Han Suyin
Hello Dixie,
All Han Suyin's books are in English.
This book My House Has Two Doors is partly about Johore and
Singapore during the period from 1952 to 1956.
Her surgery was in Johore Bahru and she was an advisor to
the then Nanyang University.
....And The Rain My Drink is about the resettling of the Hakka
squatters into new villages in a Hakka town called Yong Peng in
the State of Johore. I am sure you have been to Yong Peng.
Last year I stayed in a Yong Peng oil palm plantation for
two weeks.
Hope you can find Han Suyin's books in the libraries in Singapore.
I wonder if you have read or known about this book called
"Sold For Silver" by a Singaporean Hakka girl called
Lin Qiu Mei or Janet Lim. It is her autobiography and about the
Japanese occupation of Singapore.
Last time I heard about the author was that she was the
Chief Matron in a Singapore Government hospital.
