Dylan, I think the example you gave for tone "5" (out) should be /43/, not /11/. (I am speaking Dong Guan Hak). Also I feel the diagram could be misleading. To distinguish the short sounds from the long ones, perhaps a symbol can be added, like /43'/ , /5'/ (if the tone is flat, may be /5'/ is sufficient, rather than /55'/). Just soome suggestions. SL
