Subject: On Kwet

Hello HGNetters!

I am of the Hau (heu2) clan. From what I've been told, all the Haus in
Mauritius (and elsewhere?) descend from a common ancestor, Hau On Kwet
or On Kwet, who was apparently an important figure coming from Fukien
and who participated in the founding of Moiyen (Meixian). Since I am
the 25th generation, and taking an average of 30 years per generation,
it would seem that this ancestor lived about 750 years ago i.e. circa
1250 AD or around the fall of Southern Sung Dynasty.

Have any of you heard of this figure and would care to let me know more
about him, please? One question is begging: if he's the first Hau, then
what was his father's clan name? I read that change of names was
something done in ancient China in order to escape from enemies, to gain
prestige or for other reasons.

Regards,

Hau Kit Tat
