Yuanlan,

I was kind of busy when I first replied to you. Deng is Sichuan hakka,
moved from Guangdong during the Qian Dynasty. This is the last major
           ^^^^^^^^^
Hakka migration within China. The migration was encouraged by Qing
government to fill the void of Sichuan, when many people died during an
uprising.

Deng does not speak Hakka, but has a lot of Hakka supports like through
the Hakka network of Ye Jian Ying. His mandarin has strong Sichuan
accent.
However, the Sichuan mandarin sound closer to Hakka than other mandarin.
Sichuan was the last stronghold of Han dynasty (Zhuge Liang led the Hans
into Sichuan).

Please join us at the Hakka forum and maillist for discussion. See the

========================================================================The first (there are several toa come)documentary TV series
about Deng Xiaoping was on the air last week. In the program, Deng
Xiaoping family's genealogy was shown.
It traces several generations back to a Hakka Village in JiangXi.
I will give the details when I have the chance to see the tape
again.
