 Cheng Ho Expo In Malaysia

To those who are Zheng He's aficionados.

Have been nosing around the east coast of West Malaysia, and was in the state of Kelantan last week.

There will be a " Cheng Ho Expo" in the capital city of Kota Bharu from 21st - 24 the November, 2010.

Unfortunately, I will not be around during that period in time. However I did have a wonderful 2 weeks, enjoying the food, the top spinning, kite flying, puppet shows, (wayang kulit). Kelantan is rightly famous for her silvercraft, her batik and her " songket " weaving. And it is also great to check out the " rakit" ( houses on bamboo rafts ). After 2 months in East & West Malaysia, I think that the east coast states of West Malaysia, especially Kelantan, are culturally and traditionally richer than the west coast states.

There is another feature here that should add to the reasons as to why you should visit Kelantan should you be in Malaysia at any time. There is a beautiful mosque named locally - the Beijing Mosque - in a town called Rantau Panjang. And yes, you have guessed correctly. Architecturally wise it resembles a Chinese temple, much like the ones in Xian & Beijing. I even managed to witness a Malay wedding on the premises.

With best regards to all on AWF.

Tom
