God chose Israel, not because Israel was special. God could have chosen anyone. In Deuteronomy 9, God says to Israel that they were not great; they were a small nation and the most stiff necked people on earth. Yet God chose them,
Unfortunately the phrase "chosen people" has been very gravely misconceived, even by the Jewish people. The Jews were a people set aside to be a showcase of theocracy to all nations of the world. They were a representative nation chosen as a model/example of what a nation/individual ought to be. A people chosen to demonstrate the kind of relationship that God wants to have with every people on earth. This is Israel's purpose.
In Israel's history, during the glorious days of David and Solomon, the world beat a path to Israel to see what God was doing. There was a visible demonstration to the world of their day of what God would do with a nation which was in right relationship with Him. The nation was blessed, had prosperity, peace and harmony. Similarly any single individual or nation will be equally blessed if they discover the secret of their relationship to God.
When Jesus Christ came into the world and to Israel, he was rejected by both the world(represented by the Roman empire) and Israel. By this time, Israel was an obscure, little nation. and there was no voice of God in their midst. The nation had come under the Roman rule and Israel's glory had been replaced with superficial religiosity. The secret of this nation's life, lies in its relationship with God. Having broken its allegiance with God, the nation lost is peace and prosperity. In any nation/individual's life, when you lose God, you lose yourself and your peace.
Having lost God, the privilege to demonstrate the healing grace of God, was taken away from Israel and given to the church.
Jesus said: (Matthew 21:43) The kingdom of God will be taken away from you and given to a nation producing the fruits of it.
This is the nature of human beings that we never can understand anything until we see it demonstrated before us. That is why it is not enough to preach the gospel, it must also be lived. It is not enough to mouth great words like love, joy, peace and forgiveness; it must also be demonstrated, or people will never believe the gospel, never accept it, never receive it. Which means, if one profess to be a Believer, but in reality, is the person really a believer. i.e. actions speaks louder than words, and we are a people who learn from demonstration.
