One's career development depends on three things:
1. interest
2. capability
3. opportunity
in that order of priority.
With interest, one can always develop capability. Opportunity may be found or created. But interest is something hard to force one into. Some might like to play basketball all day. Others might not care to take a look at the ball. Some would like to crunch numbers all day, while others rather pay for others to do it. The last thing is to do something you are not interested, especially trapped for the rest of your life.
One might change interest during different stages of life. Given the capability, don't hesitate to switch when you can.
