Hello Friends,
Serendipitously, while I was engaged in other pursuits, I came across 3 source materials on the subject of death and life after death. I will list them here and say some brief words about each of the three. source materials. There is more material out there of course, such as Deepak Chopra's , LIFE AFTER DEATH: THE BURDEN OF PROOF.
I have not read it so I only list the ones I have read.
Readers who have read other materials may wish to contribute their sources in this thread for the benefit of other people. I am pretty sure that if one starts to look, one will discover more and more literature on this subject. What I have presented here may be a jumping off point for the contribution of information and wisdom of Forumites or for their private rumination.
Is there life after death, and if so, what is it like in the spirit world after we die? Do we have bodies? Do we live in houses? Are there trees and flowers? Do we float? Do we see loved ones? Are husband and wife separated according to their performance on earth, or do they stay together? Does deathbed confession wipe out evil deeds a person commits during his life? What is the difference between religion and spirituality and how is that measured in the spirit world?
Those who have a personal interest may like to check out this introductory material, no one can know it all. This thread is not an attempt to convince anyone of any position. As always, I'm of the view that Forumites innately and freely arrive at their own evaluation of information presented. I will not be arguing to convince anyone about the information presented.
Since I communicated in 2002 through a medium with my benevolent biological father 19 years after he died (1906-1983) , and discovered the evolution of his mindset between the time he was alive to my first serendipitous contact in 2002 and then 2005, and am presently in spiritual alliance with him, my personal bias can be plainly stated upfront I am plainly a believer in life after death and its continuing evolution after death.
I am aware of the progression in my father's spiritual evolution after he died. I am aware of the increased depth and subtlety of his understanding - while retaining his sense of humor which was a hallmark of his personality on earth, to which there are still living witnesses today. The authenticity of who he is was as a spirit being was established by details of our earthly relationship. It was mutually agreed in August 2002 that I will be reunited with him when I cross over. This is natural to many family situations, however this was articulated in my case. He asked if I desired him to wait for me. I said, yes.
Of course, final proof of whether these three authors mentioned below are accurate or not will only be determined when we ourselves make the inevitable transition. In all the information presented from my readings, there is nothing to fear.
I daresay, in the due course of natural time, we - you-plural and I - may even visit each other in the spirit world just as we have visited each other here on the Forum in cyberspace - lol. Think nothing of it !
Of course travel, locomotion or navigation in the spirit world is different from the earth-world. Just think * - and you are there in spirit-form ! Rapid transit in the spirit world - economical, efficient, no pollution :-) - simply think of the desired destination without maps, car keys or bus -plane-train schedules or travel time, without traffic jams.. The travel and transportation industry, I imagine, is non existent in the spirit world. lol. Nor is there concern about fuel supplies and energy shortage.
Although I have only met two Forumites in real life and seen photos of several others, I am sure I would recognize you in the spirit world from your normal thought and speech patterns from having seen them expressed in text on my computer monitor.
For those who have been unjustly wronged in earth life, it is stated that
" the law of cause and effect, the spiritual reaping that succeeds the earthly sowing; shows that to escape moral justice upon the earth-plane is to find strict and unrelenting justice in the spirit world....Every bad action must be accounted for by the one who commits it ". [ Chapter VI. Some Questions Answered: LIFE IN THE WORLD UNSEEN ] We are later told that it is not so much that bad people are punished by God but that they punish themselves.
Therefore if you have suffered injustice, fear not that the injustice done in the earth world is not seen in the spirit world. It was and is seen. Thse who were unjust will experience the cold, bleak effects of the injustice they wrought until they have sensibility of the wrongs they did. In this they will be given encouragement and help to see their wrongs. There is hope for every soul to progress but their wrongs will not be wiped out automatically as if the offences never occurred. Fear not those of you who were oppressed without justice and perhaps without witnesses. Those wrongs are known in the spirit world.
The description of the dark realms also concur, in tone, with my personal experience of darkness during my present earth life of a former period.
There is also mirthfullness and laughter in the spirit world.
The whole subject of life after death, to paraphrase Deepak Chopra M.D., is that birth and death are but parentheses in the continuum of life.
As for myself this preview of the spirit world, my future home, has provided greater groundedness for me in my earth world. The vast unknown is no longer a total question mark for me. I can turn my attention to earth duties with a different focus. I have been shown a template of my experience: past, present and future - the dark world, a current pleasant peaceful earth world and the future spirit world. And it is A.O.K. !
Due to other demands, I will not be extensively engaged in discussing these materials, but I may pop in here and there.
It has been some time since I posted a live weblink on this Forum. If I discover the links below are not live, I will repeat this post, hopefully with live links. If I am unsuccessful a second time, perhaps somebody will jump in to assist.

1. EMBRACING DEATH by Angela Browne-Miller PhD. 1996
A slim volume of 133 pages, this book describes the physcal body in stages of shutting down during the death process . There are also 3 deaths ..
* Physical death of the body.
* Astral death - the death of the emotional vehicle
* Dissipation of mental energy which should be done consciously.
She discusses how to navigate these three deaths. I am not trained in this, so an interested reader should obtain her book and study it further.
The author says that it is our responsibility to stay conscious during this process as we go through it. "Conscious dying is your right and responsibility." p.16. "Be conscious of your choice...Make certain it is indeed YOUR choice. Do not linger in indecision. Let the body die as soon as possible if you are leaving it. Do not unwitingly leave your 'empty' but still living physical body open to inhabitation by an essence other than your own." p.18.
She also describes travel between different dimensions while still in this earthly life and discusses non-physical death, such as giving up addictive patterns in our lives. With every cycle of giving up an old pattern, there is transcendence.
Angela Browne-Miller, is a contemporary psychotherapist. She holds two PhDs from U of California and also teaches there in several departments. On page 133 she acknowledges the people who have contributed to her material. These include her biological parents who were each transparent to her about their death process and who have communicated with her from the spirit world.

I was unable to find an online version of Browne-Miller's book, whereas I was able to find an online version of the two other publications mentioned below and have provided links to them.
2 LIFE IN A WORLD UNSEEN by Anthony Borgia, 1958, a medium who chanelled the thoughts of Mgsr. Robert Hugh Benson 1871-1914,
Hugh Benson was a Catholic priest whose father had been the Anglican Archbishop of Canterbury. Hugh Benson was appointed Monsignor by Pope Pius X. During his lifetime, Benson was the author of many books and made a name for himself. Benson was also friends with Anthony Borgia, the medium, for 5 years before Benson's death which was preceeded by a short illness. Anthony Borgia, Benson's medium, provided a preface to the recorded text of his former friend Benson from the spirit world.
So far, I have been unable to locate the DOB-DOD, date of birth and date of death or any biographical information about Anthony Borgia or in what manner the recordings took place and were transcribed. I do see that a hardback copy of the book is dated 1958, but I wonder if it was not earlier than that. Benson died in 1914, which is 44 years previous to 1958 the date of publication to said book, LIFE IN A WORLD UNSEEN.
Benson particularly wanted to communicate to people on earth because he wished to set straight some mistakes he had written while he lived on the earth plane.
Benson also expressed the view that what the church provides about the true life of the spirit is very narrow and limited and that what he knew on the earth plane was very limited and distorted and, in fact, he as a priest of the church presented distorted information unwittingly. Religious creeds, dogmas, doctrines melt away in the spirit world. Yet, people do practice their 'former religion' in the spirit world if they so choose. Bigotry and prejudices are carried over exactly as people held them when they died. Whether they evolve or not in the spirit world is up to them.

Benson's account is similar to the TEACHINGS OF ZARETH , mentioned below in this post, in that Benson described different planes of existence not just one in the spirit world and that when we go there our assignment to a plane is in accordance to how we lived in earth-school. Benson also says that death-bed repentances are of no avail. This is the same information conveyed in the Teachings of Zareth. Both books also refer to "SUMMERLAND ".
Summerland is the bright , beautiful sphere of the spirit world. There are other spheres not bright, nor beautiful.
Descriptions of life in the spirit world in this book are detailed which is similar to the Teachings of Zareth which is also detailed.
LIFE IN THE WORLD UNSEEN , by Anthony Borgia channelling for Hugh Benson, is divided into two parts. Each part contains several chapters.
a) Beyond This Life (10 chapters )
b) The World Unseen (15 chapters )
Anthony Borgia is the author of several other books in this vein.
Again there is no heavy seriousness in the tone of this book.
It's tone is conversational, anecdotal.
3. TEACHINGS OF ZARETH. 1976- 1981, is sourced by an ancient Persian spirit, with many past lives on earth, who communicated 38 teachings through a woman in Vancouver BC, Canada at public gatherings between 1976-1981.
Zareth has lived many lives on earth and has lived a long time in the spirit world. He was also a contemporary of the person whom the world calls Jesus Christ, but whom Zareth calls 'the Nazarene.'

They convey realistic word pictures in a conversational tone about the earth-school and the spirit world. This book and the one listed above, LIFE IN A WORLD UNSEEN often express a sense of humor about life in both places, a sense of humor about who we are. The resounding and always concluding message is that the Father is love and that we are loved. However, the teachings discuss many topics. My comments below touch on only a few of the topics.
When we die and cross over into the spirit world, we still have ourselves to deal with. “It is not an instant heaven where all is solved, and all will be wiped away.” "Whatsoever a man soweth,that shall he reap." The opportunity for spiritual growth is limitless. It continues after we die. There is also nothing to fear there. There is great beauty.
Whatever lessons we did not learn in this life on earth-school, we are given the opportunity to learn them after we die. It is a do it yourself process. We are shown the way, but only we can change our minds and accept greater consciousness, greater awareness as it is patiently shown to us in the spirit world by spirit teachers. We too have the opportunity to become teachers in a live of service in due course depending on our progressive consciousness over time.
A deathbed confession or contrition does not necessarily wipe away all the wrongs a person has done on this earth. When such person crosses over, they have to sincerely understand their wrongs before they can move on to a different ‘plane’ –meaning gradually closer towards greater light.
Yes. There are planes of existence in the spirit world. One’s state of mind and behavior in earthy life decides what plane we are assigned to in the after life. However, as we become more and more conscious, we can make progress and ‘move forward’, within the spirit world.
An evil person will have to learn lessons that he did not learn on earth. If he chooses not to learn those lessons, he will remain ‘stuck’ at the plane he entered in. If he chooses to learn lessons, he will make progress. So does any priest, bishop, archbishop or pope, king, queen, emperor, potentate or any human being.. It does not matter what our earthly position/title was. What matters is if we understood how to treat others with kindness, understanding, compassion, love, humility, patience, tolerance.
The bottom line is this - we cannot get away from who we are after we die. Anything we still have left to learn will still remain to be learned. We are stuck with ourselves!
Multitudes of bad people on earth die and when they cross over, their mind-set still remains the same mind-set during their time on earth. It is still a problem for other beings in the spirit world. Teachers of the spirit world then patiently communicate with these people from time to time, hoping to effect a change in attitude.
The 38 teachings, listed in ascending order, are provided below. These texts vary from 10-17 pages in length with single line-space typed text. Each separate teaching is not a quick read, but neither is it a complex read - at least half hour to one hour may be required to read one teaching.
May I suggest to those who may be so inclined, to read at leisure in different time segments, not in a hurry. There may be more then 38 teachings, I do not know. I only know there are 38 teachings currently listed on the website but Teaching No. 1 is currently NOT available.
