Gong Xi Fa Cai
The Song poet Wang Anshi 宋朝詩人王安石 (1021AD to 1086AD) - 011
Wang Anshi was born in the county of Linchuan (臨川縣) in Jiangxi province
(江西省) during the Song Dynasty (宋朝 960AD to 1279AD). He loved to study
and he had a good memory and he could remember what he had read. He could
write very fast as if the words that he wrote had never gone through his
brain. He just scripting along very fast without thinking. But the essays
he wrote turned out to be excellent articles. In 1043AD, when he was 22
years old, he passed the Imperial Examinations and was appointed an official.
During the reign of Emperor Shen Zong Zhao Xu (神宗皇帝趙頊 1068AD to 1085AD)
Wang Anshi was appointed as the Prime Minister for two terms. He implemented
the reformation of the nation. He was opposed by many government officials.
Eventually, he was dismissed as the Prime Minister by the Emperor in 1076AD.
He was sent to become the magistrate of Jianglingfu (江寧府 the present
day city of Nanjing 南京市 in Jiangsu province 江蘇省). He served as a magistrate
for only for one year and he retired the following year. He died at the
age of 66. He had written many books and the most popular ones are: 臨川集
(Lin Chuan Ji), 周官新義 (Zhou Guan Xin Yi) and others. He was also a poet
and he compiled a book titled 唐百家詩選 (Tang Bai Jia Shi Xuan or a collection
of Tang poems).
This is Wang Anshi's famous poem on New Year (元日)
爆竹聲中一歲除,---Bao4 zhu2 sheng zhong yi sui4 chu2,
春風送暖入屠穌;---Chun feng song4 nuan2 ru4 Tusu;
前門萬戶曈曈日,---Qian2 men2 wan4 hu4 tong2 tong2 ri4,
總把新桃換舊符.---Zong3 ba3 xin tao2 huan4 jiu4 fu2.
New Year
Amid the sound of fire-crackers, a year is over.
The lukewarm wind of Spring is blowing while
we are drinking the Tusu wine.
In the morning while the sun is shining every household
Removes the old couplets and replace them with new ones.
Note:
Tusu wine (屠蘇酒)
is the name of a kind of wine that ancient people
drank on only Chinese New Year day
屠蘇=酒名
古人於元旦飲之
