Hong Xiannu Sings Yu Guang Qu in Mandarin
This is my first time listen to her singing in Mandarin. She is a Cantonese
actress and songstress. I loved to listen to her Cantonese opera songs when
I was in Chinese school. Somehow, I changed to listen to Mandarin songs
during the war between the British Colonial Authorities and the Malayan
Communist Party (1948 to 1960). In order to entertain us who lived in small
towns and villages, during the long hours curfew Radio Malaya broadcast
an hour of Mandarin songs every night. That was how I picked up the habit
of listening to Mandarin songs.
