山上有一個大亭子﹐正面朝南﹐一年四季陽光充沛﹐

望去渤海﹐姓啟歐餘

Chinese surname Ou-Yang (歐-陽)
Ou means: a Chinese surname.
Yang means: the sun; bright; clear.
The surname Ou-Yang is about 2,300 years old.

The three surnames Ou (歐), Ou-Yang (歐陽) and Ou-Hou (歐侯) originated from the same ancestor. However, it seems that surname Ou-Hou has disappeared.

The surname Ou-Yang originated in an area referred to during the Han Dynasty (漢朝 206BC to 220AD) as the Bo Hai prefecture (渤海郡). The present day location of Bo Hai prefecture is in Cang Xian county (滄縣 116.9 degree East and 38.3 degree North on the world map) of Hebei province (河北省).

There was a big pavilion built on a mountain called Ou Yu (歐餘). It was facing south and received sunlight throughout the year. People living around the area near the mountain called it Ou Yang Ting (歐陽亭) or Ou the sunshine pavilion (in present day Wu Jin county 吳進 縣 in Jiangsu province 江蘇省). It was situated within the dominion of the State of Yue (越國 present day Zhu Ji county 諸暨縣 in Zhejiang province 浙江省).

The States of Yue (越國) and Chu (楚國 present day Jiang Ling county 江陵縣 in Hubei provinceu 湖北省) were neighbouring and rival States. In 334BC Chu and Yue were at war. The State of Yue was defeated and annexed by Chu.

Si Ti (姒蹄), the second son of the last ruler of Yue, Si Wu Jiang (姒無疆), was given the authority by Xiong Shang (熊商), the ruler of Chu, to administer the district of Ou Yang Ting. Xiong Shang bestowed upon Si Ti the title of Ou Yang Ting Hou (歐陽亭侯) or the Marquis of Ou Yang Ting. The title was inheritable by Si Ti's descendants after his death.

By the end of the period of Warring States (戰國時代 453BC to 221BC) there were only seven States left in the land. The State of Qin (秦國 present day Feng Xiang county 鳳翔縣 in Shaanxi province 陜西省) was the strongest. Eventually, Ying Zheng (嬴政), the ruler of Qin conquered all the other States in the land.

In 223BC, the State of Chu was conquered by the State of Qin. The title Ou Yang Ting Hou was abolished. Si Ti the first Ou Yang Ting Hou had many descendants. Some of them adopted Ou, some adopted Ou Yang and some adopted Ou Hou as their surnames and left off the word Ting (pavilion). The members of the Ou-Yang branch emigrated to the north and settled in the present day county of Cang Xian in Hebei province where it was recorded as the place of the origin of surname OU-YANG (歐陽). .

Surname SITU (司徒)

Si means: manage.
Tu means: apprentice; participants
The phrase Situ means: an official in charge of ritual ceremony
in the ancient Ruler's Court
The surname Situ is more than 3000 years old.

The surname Situ originated in an area referred to during the Later Wei
Dynasty (北魏朝 386AD to 534AD) as the Zhao prefecture (趙郡). The present
day location of Zhao prefecture is the Zhao county (趙縣 112.6 degree East and 367.8 degree North on the world map) and about 20 kilometers from the city of Tai Yuan 太原) in Shanxi province (山西省).

During the three Dynasties of Xia (夏朝), Shang (商朝) and Zhou (周朝) there
was always a Situ who was responsible for farmlands and employing labour for state projects. Situ was one of the six most important position in the country.
Somehow along the line, one Situ surnamed his children SITU and the descendants of children continued to use Situ as their surname.

During the Former Han Dynasty (西漢朝 206BC to 8AD) the post of the Prime Minister was replaced by Da Situ (大司徒).

The couplet for surname Situ is,

望族出趙郡, =Wang zu chu Zhao jun,
苗裔啟商周. =Miao yi qi Shang Zhou

During the period of the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms (五代十國 907AD to 960AD) there was, recorded in history, a man called Situ Yu (司徒羽), from the county of Qing He (清河縣) of Hebei province (河北省). Situ Yu was appointed by the ruler Liu Zhi Yuan (劉知遠) of the Later Han Dynasty (後漢朝 947AD to 950AD) as an official. Situ Yu refused to serve the new master and he retired to his hometown.

In my opinion it is better to stay in a "Good Forum" than wandering around from forum to forum. Write and contribute to and learn from that forum. Eventually you would not become "Jack of all trade and master of none."

When I first went to the internet I was very thrilled with the newsgroups. A few months later I discovered that the people there were talking nonsense and quarrelling all the time. I wrote and contributed many culturally articles there. People there were not interested at all and they just want to have a good time to have a go with each other.

Then, in 1993, the HGN (Hakka Global Network) was born and SL Lee established the Asiawind Forum the following year. I stopped going to any newsgroup or other forums. I stayed with Asiawind Forum ever since.
