100. 隋宮 The Palace of the Sui Dynasty

紫泉宮殿銷煙霞,---Zi3 quan2(*1A) gong dian4 xiao yan xia2,
欲取蕪城作帝家.---Yu4 qu3 Wucheng(*2B) zuo4 di4 jia.
玉璽不緣歸日角,---Yu4 xi3(*3C) bu4 yuan2 gui ri4 jiao3(*4D),
錦帆應是到天涯.---Jin3 fan(*5E) ying4 shi4 dao4 tian ya2.

於今腐草無螢火,---Yu2 jin fu3 cao3 wu2 ying2 huo3,
終古垂楊有暮鴉.---Zhong gu3 chui2 yang2 you3 mu4 ya.
地下若逢陳後主,---Di44 xia4 ruo4 feng2 Chen Houzhu(*6F),
豈宜重問後庭花?--Qi3 yi2 chong2 wen4 hou4 ting2 hua(*7G)?

The explanations in plain Chinese and English

(1) 紫色的流水, 圍繞著隋朝的舊宮殿, 四周好像被煙霧和雲霞銷著,
The purple spring flew around the old palace of the extinct Sui Dynasty
and the four sides of the old palace were like being enclosed by the smoke
and rosy clouds.
(2) 當初隋煬帝見到這種的景象, 他便要想把蕪城改作為帝王的住宅.
Originally, when Emperor Yang (楊廣) saw this scenery, he wanted to establish
his residential palace in Wucheng
(3) 假使帝王的玉印, 沒有緣分歸到容貌特異的唐太宗手裏,
If the jade seal belonging to the monarch were not fated for Tang Tai Zong
Li Yuan (李淵),
(4) 那末他的龍舟上掛了錦帆, 可以遊盡天邊了.
Emperor Yang could have used his dragon boat to tour the world (China).

(5) 到了現在這荒涼的隋宮舊址, 只生著許多雜亂的草, 連螢火也沒有了;
Up to the present day, the old site of the Sui Palace was bleak and desolate
with lots of wild grass
(6) 從古以來的垂楊, 晚來只有烏鴉棲息著.
Since ancient time polar trees were the resting place of the crows at night.
(7) 我想隋煬帝在地下遇到了陳後主,
I presumed that Emperor Yang had met Chen Shubao[陳叔寶] in the underworld,
(8) 怎可再向他問起後庭花的曲子呢?
How Emperor Yang was going to ask Chen Shubao about his song called Hou
Ting Hua[5E]?

Notes:
(*1A) 紫泉 = 即紫淵﹐紫色的流水

(*2B) 蕪城 (Wucheng)
Is in the northeast of the present day county of Jiangdu (江都縣) in Jiangsu
province (江蘇省). 南北朝時宋竟陵王誕亂後﹐城邑荒蕪。鮑照作蕪城賦以
示感傷﹐因稱蕪城。

(*3C) 玉璽 = 帝王所用的印。

(*4D) 日角 = 謂天庭中骨起﹐狀如日﹐用稱帝王異相。

(*5E) 錦帆 = 用錦製成的風帆。

(*6F) 陳後主 = 南北朝是陳宣帝子﹐荒淫無度﹐隋師至﹐與孔張二妃匿於胭脂井﹐

俘之長安。

(*7G) 後庭花 (Hou Ting Hua) = 曲名。

Was the Founder and First Emperor of the Tang Dynasty.

[**10J] 陳叔寶 (Chen Shubao)
Was the last ruler of the Chen Dynasty (陳朝 557AD to 589AD). He was also
known as Chen Houzhu (陳後主).
