A Tang poem Zhang Jiuling (張九齡)
感遇 The feeling of encountering - [B]
蘭葉春葳蕤,---Lan2 ye4 chun wei rui4 [*1A],
桂花秋皎潔,---Gui4 hua qiu jiao3 jie2 [*2B],
欣欣此生意,---Xin Xin [*3C] ci3 sheng yi4,
自爾為佳節.---Zi4 er3 wei2 jia jie2.
誰知林棲者,---Shui2 zhi lin2 qi [*4D] zhe3,
聞風坐相悅,---Wen2 feng zuo4 xiang yue4,
草木有本心,---Cao3 mu4 you3 ben3 xin [*5E],
何求美人折?--He2 qiu2 mei3 ren2 [*6F] zhe2?

(1) 蘭花的葉子, 到了春天是很茂盛的,
Orchid leaves flourish in the spring,
(2) 桂花到了秋天, 便開得很皎潔;
Laurel glisten brightly in the season of autumn,
(3) 這樣的生氣蓬勃的姿態,
This kind of flourishing atmosphere,
(4) 便造成了良好的季節.
Has made this period into a good season.
(5) 那裏知道就是隱居在林下的人,
Not knowing that those hermits living in the forest,
(6) 遇到了這樣的景物, 也覺得非常的歡喜哩.
Are very happy in such a delightful scenery.
(7) 我以為蘭桂是一種草木, 但是它自有堅貞幽靜的本心,
I believe orchid and laurel are wood and grass, but they have their original
nature,
(8) 又何嘗希望美人去攀折它呢?
Yet why do they want beautiful person to pick their flowers and trim their
branches?
