Shao Yong (邵雍 1011AD to 1077AD) - the philosopher

Shao Yong was born in Fan Yang (范陽 present day Zhuo county 涿縣 of Hebei province (河北省) during the Song Dynasty (宋朝 960AD to 1279AD). He studied astronomy from Li Zhi Cai (李之才). His intimate friends were Sima Guang (司馬光 1019AD to 1086AD), Cheng Hao (程顥 1032AD to 1085AD) and Cheng Yi (程頤 1033AD to 1107AD), who were well known scholars at that time. He was appointed an official during the last period of the reign of Emperor Ren Zong Zhao Zhen (仁宗皇帝趙禎 1023AD to 1063AD). Having served for several years he resigned on the ground that he was ill.

He lived in Su Men Shan (蘇門山) near the city of Luoyang (洛陽) of Henan province (河南省). He supported himself by farming. He named his house Anle Wo (安樂窩) or the Nest of Peace and Happiness and called himself Mr. Peace and Happiness. He devoted his life to the study of Zhou Yi (周易) and Gua Ling Tu (卦令圖). His philosophy was 唯心主義 or Materialism.

He wrote; 宇宙 the Universe was 太極 the Highest Utmost Point that 心 (Heart) and 道 (Way). "萬化萬事皆生乎心 Every thing begins from the heart" "天由道而生, 地由道而成 Dao (Way) gives birth to Heaven and Dao completed the Earth". He invented the 先天卦位圖 (Xian Tian Gua WeiTu).or the Position of Heaven and "天地萬物盡在其中 Every thing in Heaven and on Earth was in it".

He had written many books and the most popular ones were the "皇極經世", "先天圖", "觀物篇" "魚樵問答", "伊川擊壤集) and many others. Most of the fortune-tellers used his book for their references.

(2) Shao Jin Han (邵晉涵 1743AD to 1796AD).

Shao Jin Han was born in Yu Yao county (餘姚縣) of Zhejiang province (浙江省)
during the Qing Dynasty (清朝 1644AD to 1911AD). He passed the Imperial Examnination and became a Jin Shi (進士). During his school age he had photograpic mind. Anything that he studied he would not forget (讀書過目不忘).

In 1772AD Emperor Qian Long (乾隆皇帝 1736AD to 1795AD) issued an edict inviting scholars in the country to compile a book called "四庫全書 Si Ku Quan Shu, by using all the books in the country as the reference books. 359 scholars were selected to compile the book and Shao Jin Han was one of them. The leader of the scholars was Ji Yun (紀昀 1723AD to 1805AD). Ji Yun always said he was:

浮沉宦海如鷗鳥, =Fu chen huan hai ru ou niao,
生死書叢似蠹魚. =Sheng si shu cong si du yu.

In the official circles, I am like a sea gull just drifting along,
I am like the silverfish that lived and died among the books.

Referring to all the books in the country, the scholars spent more than ten years in compiling this book. In the first Month of the 47th year reign (1782AD) of Emperor Qian Long the book was completed, consisting of 36,275 volumes with about seven billion words. Si Ku Qian Shu was the biggest book in the world. Only seven copies were made. One copy was kept in the Forbidden City, one in Yuan Ming Yuan (圓明園), one in Shenyang (沈陽), one in Chengde (承德),and (I don't know the rest). The historical volumes were mostly written by Shao Jin Han
.
Shao Jin Han was the author of the book titled 爾雅正義 (Er Ya Zheng Yi).

(3) Shao Piao Ping (邵飄萍 1884AD to 1926AD)

書有末曾經我讀, =Shu you mo jing wo du,
事無不可向人言. =Shi wu bu ke xiang ren yan.

There are books that I have not read,
But there is nothing that I cannot tell people.

Shao Piao Ping was born in Jin Hua county (金華縣) of Zhejiang province (浙江省),
during the Qing Dynasty (清朝 1644AD to 1911AD). He was a very popular reporter in Beijing (北京) in the 1920s. He founded the newspaper called Jing Bao (京報) in Beijing. He supported the mass demonstrations by the people against the Warlord Zhang Zuo Lin (張作霖) who controlled the three provinces in the Northeast. Shao Piao Ping was killed by Zhang Zuo Lin's soldiers.
