(2) Shao Jin Han (邵晉涵 1743AD to 1796AD).
Shao Jin Han was born in Yu Yao county (餘姚縣) of Zhejiang province (浙江省)
during the Qing Dynasty (清朝 1644AD to 1911AD). He passed the Imperial Examnination and became a Jin Shi (進士). During his school age he had photograpic mind. Anything that he studied he would not forget (讀書過目不忘).
In 1772AD Emperor Qian Long (乾隆皇帝 1736AD to 1795AD) issued an edict inviting scholars in the country to compile a book called "四庫全書 Si Ku Quan Shu, by using all the books in the country as the reference books. 359 scholars were selected to compile the book and Shao Jin Han was one of them. The leader of the scholars was Ji Yun (紀昀 1723AD to 1805AD). Ji Yun always said he was:
浮沉宦海如鷗鳥, =Fu chen huan hai ru ou niao,
生死書叢似蠹魚. =Sheng si shu cong si du yu.
In the official circles, I am like a sea gull just drifting along,
I am like the silverfish that lived and died among the books.
Referring to all the books in the country, the scholars spent more than ten years in compiling this book. In the first Month of the 47th year reign (1782AD) of Emperor Qian Long the book was completed, consisting of 36,275 volumes with about seven billion words. Si Ku Qian Shu was the biggest book in the world. Only seven copies were made. One copy was kept in the Forbidden City, one in Yuan Ming Yuan (圓明園), one in Shenyang (沈陽), one in Chengde (承德),and (I don't know the rest). The historical volumes were mostly written by Shao Jin Han
.
Shao Jin Han was the author of the book titled 爾雅正義 (Er Ya Zheng Yi).
