North and South Dynasties (1)
This period of Chinese history is rather hard to follow. I, now, divide it into chronological summary of each the dynasties. If you are interested in Chinese
history please download it for future reference.
After the collapse of the Jin Dynasty (晉朝 265AD to 420AD)
China entered the period of the North and South Dynasties (南北朝)
The Han Chinese (漢族) established the dynasties in the south were known as
"The South Dynasties (南朝 420AD to 589AD)" by historians.
South Dynasties::
(1) Song (宋 420AD to 479AD).
The founder of this dynasty was Liu Yu (劉裕). The capital was at Jian Kang
(建康 present day Nanjing 南京 in Jiangsu province 江蘇省). The dynasty had been ruled by eight rulers and their surname was Liu (劉). The eight rulers were:
(1) Wu Emperor Liu Yu (武帝劉裕 420 to 422).
(2) Shao Emperor Liu Yifu (少帝劉義符 423 to 424).
(3) Wen Emperor Liu Yilong (文帝劉義隆 424 to 453)
(4) Xiao Wu Emperor Liu Jun (孝武帝劉駿 454 to 464).
(5) The former abolished Emperor Liu Ziye (前廢帝劉子業 465)
(6) Ming Emperor Liu Yu (明帝劉彧 465 to 472)
(7) The later abolished Emperor Liu Yu (Later became Cang Wu King)
===後廢帝劉昱 473 to 477(蒼梧王).
(8) Shun Emperor Liu Zhun (順帝劉準 477 to 479)
The Song was destroyed by Qi (齊) in 479

(2) Qi (齊 479AD to 502AD).
The founder of this dynasty was Xiao Daocheng (蕭道成). The capital was at the same place as that of the Song, Jian Kang. There were seven rulers during the and their surname was Xiao (蕭). The seven rulers wre:
(1) Gao Zu Emperor Xiao Daocheng (高祖蕭道成 479 to 482)
(2) Wu Emperor Xiao Ze (武帝蕭賾 483 to 493)
(3) The abolished Emperor Yu (廢帝蕭鬱 494)
Later King Lin Xiao Zhaoye (林王蕭昭業)
(4) The abolished Emperor (廢帝海 494)
Later Kin Ling Xiao Zhaowen (陵王蕭昭文)
(5) Ming Emperor (明帝蕭鸞 494 to 498)
(6) The abolished Emperor (廢帝 499 to 501)
Later Duke Dong Hun Xiao Bao Juan (東昏侯蕭寶卷)
(7) He Emperor Xiao Baorong (和帝蕭寶融 501 to 502)
The Qi was destroyed by Liang (梁) in 502.

(3) Liang (梁 502AD to 557AD),
including Later Liang (後梁 555 to 587).
This dynasty was founded by Xiao Yan (蕭衍). The capital was at the same
place as that of the aboves, Jian Kang. There were seven rulers and their surname was Xiao (蕭). The seven rulers were:
Liang (梁)
(1) Wu Emperor Xiao Yan (梁武帝蕭衍 502 to 549)
(2) Jian Wen Emperor Xiao Gang (簡文帝蕭綱 550 to 551)
(3) Yuan Emperor Xiao Yi (元帝蕭繹 552 to 555)
(4) Jing Emperor Xiao Fangzhi (敬帝蕭方智 555 to 557)
Hou Liang (後梁)
(5) Xuan Emperor Xiao Cha (宣帝蕭察 555 to 562)
(6) Ming Emperor Xiao Kui (明帝蕭蘬 563 to 585)
(7) Duke Ju Xiao Cong (莒公蕭琮 586 to 587)
The Hou Liang was subjugated by Chen (陳)

(4) Chen (陳 557AD to 589AD).
The founder of this dynasty was Chen Baxian (陳霸先). The capital was at the same place as that of the aboves, Jian Kang. There were five rulers and their surname was Chen (陳). The five rulers were:
(1) Wu Emperor Chen Baxian (武帝陳霸先 557 to 559)
(2) Wen Emperor Chen Qian (文帝陳蒨 560 to 566)
(3) The abolished Emperor Chen Bozong (廢帝陳伯宗 567 to 568)
Later became King of Lin Hai (臨海王).
(4) Xuan Emperor Chen Xu (宣帝陳頊 569 to 582)
(5) Later Ruler Chen Shubao (後主陳叔寶 583 to 589)
The Chen was destroyed by Sui (隋)
