Hi Tin-Kay,
Tin-Kay: I think the highest concentration of the Han people with the Huang surname come from Guangdong. The Huangs in Guangxi also come from the Zuang minority, and hence Zuang minority Huangs are not truly representative
Erik: There are Huangs among China's Minority Peoples, the Koreans (Hwang), and even the Vietnamese (Huynh). They are not descendants of non-Chinese who adopted the surname Huang but they are the real descendants of the Chinese (Han's) Huangs who had intermarried with the non-Chinese (Han) and were assimilated into their cultures.
Here are some facts on the Wang Surname:
Population Statistics on the Wang Surname (2000 est.)
1. Wang ranks 2nd among the Chinese Surnames with a population of 93.22 million or 7.21% of the total population of China.
2. Wang ranks among the Top Ten largest Surname in 31 of the 34 Cities (Shi), Provinces (Sheng) and Regions (Qu) in China. It is the largest Surname in 7 Northern Provinces and Regions and in 1 Yangtze (Central Province).
3. Wangs make up more than 10% of the population in 8 Provinces and Regions in China and all of them are located in North China.
4. 6.86 million Wangs are found in the Southern Provinces (see my link in the first posting for the names of these provinces) and make up 3.37% of the population. There are 980,000 Wangs in Taiwan Province, 1.76 million in Fujian Province and 2.63 million in Guangdong and Hainan Provinces.
