人不知己過,---Ren2 bu4 zhi ji3 guo4,
牛不之自力.---Niu2 bu4 zhi zi4 li4.
Men do not know their own faults,
Oxen do not know their own strength.

人不知自醜,---Ren2 bu4 zhi zi4 chou3,
馬不嫌臉長.---Ma3 bu4 xian2 lian3 chang2
Man does not know that he himself is ugly,
The horses do not mind of having long faces.

人吃飯是為了活著,------Ren2 chi fan4 shi4 wei2 le huo2 zhao2,
但活著不是為了吃飯.---Dan4 huo2 zhao2 bu4 shi4 wei2 le chi fan4.
Live not to eat,
But live to eat.
(Do not let eating be the chief object in life)
(勿以飲食為人生之主要目的﹔不是活著為了吃﹔而是為了活才吃)
