擒山中之賊易,---Qin2 shan zhong zhi zei2 yi4,
除心中之賊難.---Chu2 xin zhong zhi zei2 nan2.
It is easy to catch the thief in the mountain,
But it is hard to get rid of the evil designs in your heart.

禽有禽言,---Qin2 you3 qin2 yan2,
獸有獸語.---Shou4 you3 shou4 yu3.
Birds have birds words,
Animals have their own language.

斬草不除根,---Zhan3 cao3 bu4 chu2 gen,
逢春芽又生.---Feng2 chun ya2 you3 sheng.
If you cut the weeds without digging up the roots,
Young shoots will shoot out when spring comes.
