Chinese Tibetan terrain is a strategic asset for China's Second Artillery

VIDEO of Chinese Tibetan ballistic missile silos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTJF3wa12Os

Tibet is crucial to China's thermonuclear deterrence.

If you look carefully at the video of Chinese silos in Tibet, you will notice they are placed right against the cliff face of the mountain ranges. It other words, the incoming warhead must have a perfect trajectory to strike the silos. Otherwise, the incoming missile will crash harmlessly into the top of the mountain.

The arrangement of the Chinese Tibetan silos has been carefully selected. They can only be completely destroyed if the incoming thermonuclear warheads approach from the opposite face of the mountainous valley where the silo is located. In other words, to attack a Chinese thermonuclear silo base, the attacker must launch ballistic missiles from three different directions. This is incredibly difficult to achieve. The use of cruise missiles is too slow and easily detectable.

Therefore, Tibet is different from Xinjiang. Tibet is highly mountainous and it provides good protection for China's silos. Xinjiang is mostly desert and exposed. Furthermore, China's Tibetan thermonuclear deterrence facilities have been built up over decades. We have no idea what lies in Chinese military tunnels and depots in Tibet. This is not easily replicable in Xinjiang.

Finally, the Americans are also stirring up an anti-Chinese Xinjiang independence movement. The United States is trying to dramatically reduce China's strategic depth and strategic thermonuclear forces in both Tibet and Xinjiang provinces.
