孔子曰: Confucius said:
貧而無諂,---Pin2 er2 wu2 chan3
富而無驕.---Fu4 er2 wu2 jiao.
In simple Chinese (白話)
貧的人能夠不諂媚,
富的人能夠不驕傲.
Poor people are not fawning,
And rich people not arrogant.

兒討媳婦女討郎,---Er2 tao3 xi2 fu4 nu3 tao3 lang2,
人在世界鬧一場.---Ren2 zai4 shi4 jie4 nao4 yi chang3.
The son married a daughter-in-law and the daughter a son-in-law,
This is how the world is going round and round.

兒子哭, 驚天動地;---Er2 zi3 ku3, jing tian dong4 di4;
When a son cries, it is earthshaking;
媳婦哭, 虛情假意;---Xi2 fu4 ku3, xu qing2 jia3 yi4;
When the daughter-in-law cries, it is false displaying of affection;
閨女哭, 真心真意;---Gui nu3 ku3, zhen xin zhen yi4;
When a young maiden cries, it is true feelings and wholeheartedly;
女婿哭﹐黑驢放屁﹐Nu3 xu4 ku3, hei lu2 fang4 pi4.
When a son-in-law cries, it is the black donkey farts (talking nonsense).
