EEZ itself is not a basis to prove or establish territorial sovereignty. It is what we call a secondary concept rather than a primary concept.

In any case International Law is a misnomer! It should be called Geo-political Law; so that everyone understands that it is evolving law of convenience or best fit to suit the state of political play and political philosophy in the constantly changing scenario of the chess game among nations.

In statistical terms the U.S. of A. is the No 1 culprit when it comes to avoiding International Law when they feel like it. They are still to be brought to account for its crime against humanity for its indiscriminate Agent Orange and Napalm bombing during the Vietnam War! There is a school of thought that it should be brought to account for the nuking of Japan, for that was going beyond the ordinary bounds of conventional warfare! This was the concept used to ban ‘landmines’! If applied retrospectively, it was wrong to nuke Japan!
