Mr Bean,

I fare better with my own Filipino colleagues.

Obviously I have had no problems with Pinoys who are of Chinese decent.

But with others I have circulated the article in the Manila Standard by their own journalist. I have explained about the history before Colonialism in Philippines and why they should not be sons-of-colonists abut be true Filipinos unshackled from the colonial past. I remind them of their Chinese Filipino Icon Rizal. I remind them of their recent leaders of Chinese descent. I explain to them about the survival instinct of village Filipinos who know when to fight and when not to fight; not to be made use of by rich power brokers using them as pawns. Why be a 'monkey' for the Yanks? What is the hidden message behind the U.S. saying they are not taking sides in the dispute and sending them a 'junked' warship that they were about to scrap! Be smart like they were back in the slums of Manila. If the other guy has more money and bigger guns - do you fight? How about if China bans all tourists to Philippines? How about China banning all imports from the Philippines? How about China cutting all investments in the Philippines? How about no Chinese goods in the Philippines? Think of the families back home, how many things make their life better, because Chinese goods are cheap and readily available? What if they had to buy just Western goods? How many can afford these?

They love me for covering all angles, even when they might disagree sentimentally, for being poor or the under-dog.
