We will earn ourselves the title of 'big bully' should we start putting holes into the Philippines' hand-me-down decrepit warships, courtesy of Uncle Sham. Not only that, should there be another show of force at the Huangyan shoal and if those rickety forty-year-old former US Coast Guard cutters were to sink on their own volition we may even be accused of firing the first shot unprovoked and earn worldwide condemnation.

The Philippines have been fighting the ragtag Moro Islamic rebels in the southern Philippines since the 1970s and lately with US help but the Islamic rebels are far from defeated and they have even morphed into an Al-Qaida arm. And now the Philippines want to take on China?

We cleared the ungrateful Viets out of the Paracels in two campaigns. The first in 1974 when we beat the crap out of the South Vietnamese who occupied some of the Paracels islands and in 1988 we shot the newly reunited Vietnamese navy out of the waters of the remaining islands that they illegally occupied. Today we control all of the islands in the Paracels.

We will drive away the Viets and others who are still illegally occupying the Spratlys in due course.

There is no need to use a nuke to drive away a pesky claimant to the Spratlys.
