In the Muddle of a Quagmire of an Enigma of Change
Guess the title was intended to be a poser as to what I am about to post here.
I was reflecting on the current state of Asiawind and the return of Tin-Kay Goh. It has been good with the bulwark mainstay of Chung Yoon Ngan, and his Chinese surnames, Hakka History and Malaysian Pusing Memoirs; S.H. Lee, and his Zheng He Expeditions and his Chinese Scrolls and Calligraphy; Paul Yih, and his Opium Wars and the Jewish Scourge or Plague or Pestilence; and others like Kobo, Charles Koon & Martin Su for instance.
I am not particularly concerned about the regulars like Chow Lee, Tom Dragon and similar, who are hell-bent on trying to make Chinese become ‘bananas’ or ‘gweilos’ like them. I am however concerned when regulars like Observer and Liang who are obviously not ‘bananas’ or ‘gweilos’ start battling with each other. If not properly or amicably handled, this type of altercation can only lead to division among Chinese loyalists.
It all comes down to being ‘In the Muddle of a Quagmire of an Enigma of Change’.
It is a fact of life that everything in life changes. Any change, if properly managed will be a friend, but if not properly managed will turn out to be an enemy. I think it is very important for all Chinese loyalists to realise this - to balance the need for and to manage change but yet to retain the unchanging aspect of the essence of being Chinese. Why? In changing we do not want China to be become ‘extinct’ like ancient Greece, Rome, Egypt, Mesopotamia, Sumeria, Aztecs, and Incas etc. China is a continuing, living and prosperous antiquity!
Some people say that India is also a living antiquity. I disagree. China is the only ‘intact’ living antiquity. There was no ‘INDIA’ before the British conquered and colonised all the numerous sultans, rajahs and kings in that sub-continent. In India, the rich and powerful all act like the white Sahibs that used to rule them like serfs. The national language for practical purposes is English. Then you have up to 30 official languages. The national sport is ‘cricket’! If you are rich you just have to have your ‘tiffins’ and all things ‘British’. It is like these guys have not recovered from their ‘hangover’! There is no equivalent of our Three Pillars of Society. Buddhism is hardly a notable feature in its country of birth. Islam, the second largest religion is at war with Hinduism [the largest] and Christianity [a very small third]. Hinduism is not Hinduism as it was before the arrival of the Aryans, the Greeks and later the Moghuls. Hinduism in its origins did not have a pantheon of Gods or a caste system. This was in fact a ‘gweilo’ corruption of the past when the Indus valley was invaded by the Aryans from the West. In the genesis of Hinduism, like or as in Taoism, there were no Gods; there were just shamans, mystics and mendicants.
Anyway, why should China or the Chinese be Americanised and be like a 300+ year old United States? Why should it be Westernised? There was no present day Germany or Italy until after the 2nd WW! Where are the glorious British, Spanish, Portuguese and Dutch Colonial Empires now? China and the Chinese are and have been the same entity for over 5000+ years! For the Chinese race and culture and philosophy to continue to survive intact, we must know who or what is our real enemy is?
Well, our enemy is none other than the inherent evil that is the corruption of the West which I shall broadly describe as the ‘gweilos’ or ‘gweilo’ corruption. No matter what we learn and adopt from the West, we must not be infected with their ‘gweilo’ corruption. We must at all costs not allow the West to corrupt the Chinese soul and psyche; so as to affect its survival as a living antiquity.
Western or ‘gweilo’ corruption as a disease is not just simply in being audacious in thinking that in their ‘young’ minds [as in young countries] or ‘dead’ minds [as in extinct civilisations] they think they have the answer to the Way of the Tao, or whatever you wish to describe the mystery that is God. It is also its being devious and repugnant in extolling white supremacy and hegemony, that they are the ‘chosen’ race, that they are cleverer, more beautiful, more ‘endowed’ and in their self-proclaimed or espoused ‘righteousness’.
Pause and give this comment some serious thought.
We know what our Three Pillars of Society are, that is the essence of our Chinese culture, tradition and psyche. Every change that comes from the ‘gweilo’ corrupted West, whether it is Communism or Capitalism or Christianity or whatever should be properly ‘managed’. Presume for the worse that it will be an enemy unless it has Chinese characteristics so as to make it a friend.
Let us start with the most pervasive ‘gweilo’ corruption - Christianity. This is why the Chow Lees of this world are ‘puh how’ without realising that they have offended their ancestors. They are like Chinese Christians who do not light joss-sticks in ancestral worship or perform filial duties cleaning the tombs on Ching Ming. These are false corrupt ‘banana’ gweilo Christians who have no understanding that in the worldly ego son-of-Adam we have to render unto Mammon or Caesar what is Caesar’s; and that in our lost prodigal spirit son-of God we return to the Spirit Father what is His! In short you cannot expect to be able to practise filial piety in your spirit if you cannot practise filial piety in your worldly human existence.
Christianity [the religion of the West] because of the corrupt ‘gweilo’ psyche has ended up killing millions of otherwise innocent people in forced conversions or colonisation in the name of God. Christians have even used God as an excuse for black slavery or the inferiority of the non-white races! The reconciliation of a spirit son-of-God with his Spirit Father [the essence of Christianity] if taken as a religion, or worse, if taken as an egoistic self-righteous religion, and practised as a matter of pure simple faith without more, whereby all sins are redeemed, by profession of being a Christian, is pure blasphemy like the ‘swearing’ of a gross lie.
And yet the Christian God that they so pray to have mandated that there should be no ‘swearing’, in whatever manner or form, in Heaven or on Earth! He said – a yes is a yes and a no is a no; which is like what is done is done and you reap what you so. Good is good and bad is bad. You are what you are. You were what you were. The only relevant question is what will you be? This in essence is what the reconciliation, at the Grace of God, of a lost prodigal spirit son-of God [exiled in worldly human alter ego existence as the mortal son-of-Adam, fallen from Grace] with the Spirit Father is all about. The Spirit Father in Heaven is patiently waiting with unconditional love [this is the so-called the Grace of God] for the spirit son who has gone astray but wants the spirit son back no matter how bad the spirit son had been, for the past is past, as long as he turns into a new leaf, and come back as a filial son and devote himself to the family. That is also what as a true Chinese and a Christian [if you need to be one] you should be or practise – be filial and practise filial piety.
You may ask? Why do I bother talking at length about the corrupted ‘gweilo’ version of Christianity? The Chinese has this advantage of the Three Pillars of Society in that these are spiritual philosophical practices [which you have to cultivate or acquire like kung-fu or yoga] and not religions or faiths. Filial piety whether in the worldly sense to your human parents or ancestors or whether in the ‘spirit’ sense of your being a lost prodigal spirit son-of God returning home to your Spirit father, must be a matter of conduct or practice not simple faith or religion!
The next most insidious form of ‘gweilo’ corruption is their fostering, support and maintenance of Israel. Note I say ‘Israel’ because it is a separate problem from the ‘Jews’. I do not have to get involved in discussing whether God had punished the Jews in sending them into exile or scattering them all over the globe until the formation of Israel post-WW II. The simple fact is that the U.S. initiated plan for a new Israel was a ‘gweilo’ corrupted conspiracy against the Palestinians and the Arab World and the Moslem World. You cannot simply dispossess the Palestinians, full stop. Put it this way, had the U.S. been a Moslem country rather than a Protestant Christian country, the Palestinians would not have been dispossessed.
Had it been done or considered properly and correctly, there would have instead been a proposal for some parts of modern day Israel which has religious significance ‘equally’ for all the Abrahamic faiths [as distinct from Israel as a country for people of the Jewish ‘race’] to be set aside as ‘Holy Land’ for all three religions. Faith aside, there is no separate Jewish ‘race’ genetically. The Jews and most of the disparate Arab and non-Arab tribes in the Middle East are closely related. They are different in a tribal, religious and customary sense. Thus a certain Holy Precinct could have been set aside as an internationally neutral territory similar to the Vatican or Holy See; but aside from its ‘religious seat’ for all three Abrahamic faiths, it would have no military, political or racial bearings or overtones.
As long as modern Israel exists as a political racial State, global instability and insecurity will persists. It was once thought that Communism was the new global peril, but that has been proven wrong. If the West does not stop fostering, supporting, maintaining and defending Israel, the world will remain at tenterhooks. The creation and continuing existence of Israel as a political State to the continuing dispossession and denial of Palestine and the Palestinians is the singular most dangerous threat to world security!
That is not to say that the West or any other country should not continue to allow Jews to live and work and be citizens of the countries that foster, support, maintain and accept them as a race and part of the community. A far as the Jews are concerned, I have no personal feelings against them as a whole.
However I accept as a matter of historical fact and as a matter of continuing evidence, that there is a sub-group amongst them that are financiers and usurers and moneylenders that remain like the Shakespearean Shylocks of old, cheating with their money speculation and artificial business contrivances and shams. These modern Shylocks who have caused the Opium Wars and the financing of many European wars and instigated WWII [if you agree with Hitler] have recently caused havoc with all their wheeling and dealing in the recent U.S. banking and investment catastrophes and the Global Financial Crisis I and II. There are even accounts to say that these modern Shylocks are responsible for many of the U.S led wars post WWII, as wars were profit machines for these modern Shylocks. China should be wary about allowing any of these modern Shylocks dominated U.S. based merchant banking and investment or stockbroking companies into the country.
The next incorrigible form of ‘gweilo’ corruption is the use of Western norms or laws, having a foundation in Judeo/ Christian concepts or Greco/Roman philosophies, as the basis for international law or conventions. The concept of individual rights is based on ‘ego’. The Chinese Three Pillars of Society has no place for ‘ego’. Confucianistic values are based on family and filial piety and also rights play a second role to responsibilities. Moral values based on ‘ego’ ends up with selfish greed rather than social responsibility and community needs.
Next we have the ‘gweilo’ corruption of the U.S. dollar fiat currency. What can be more inequitable than having the bankrupt being the banker?
I must end on a qualification. I am talking about ‘gweilo’ corruption in a ‘relative’ sense rather than per se. It must be taken strictly in the context of the survival of China as a living antiquity in the face of Western domination, hegemony and ‘ego’. The West has an ‘ego’ problem! They want to be ‘world sheriff’!
As far as corruption per se or ‘at large’ goes; of course there is corruption everywhere where you have humans and they have an ‘ego’. Quite simply put, power, status, money, greed, knowledge, beauty and other natural endowments corrupt. So, there is corruption in China, as in any human society or establishment; as is evident in the recent ‘Bo’ affair. I have highlighted many a time that Capitalism left unreined would bring back societal problems of immorality, debauchery and depravity of the corrupt Olde Shanghai days. No one is denying the existence of corrupt officials and police and the bourgeoisie flaunting their wealth, opulence, arrogance and sheer extravagance in luxurious expenditure in modern day China.
Human nature and human ego if not reined in naturally leads to corruption and inequity. That is why the sole emphasis on individual rights in ‘gweilo’ thinking is fundamentally flawed and is posed with inherent dangers for social peace and harmony. The Chinese way of the Three Pillars of Society, of coupling rights with responsibilities, and putting the individual secondary to the family and subjecting him to filial piety, go some way to arresting the bane of ‘ego’.
Christianity, or at least the ‘gweilo’ corruption of it, has an ‘ego’ problem, because it falsely represents, with dire consequences, that only Christ provides spiritual salvation and that God is God of the Christians. In truth, if God exists as the Spirit Father, it must be only one universal God and He is Spirit God or Heavenly Father to all and His love and salvation must be for all His children! I have family, relatives and friends of all different religions; but I love them all. A Spirit Father should be like that to all His children! If a criminal can love his son or a pious man can love his son who is a thief; what sort of God is the Christian God, or at least the ‘gweilo’ corruption of it!
The ‘Three Pillars of Society’, all deride ‘ego’ and promulgate ‘selflessness’. Being filial, humble and ‘selfless and having no ‘ego’ is a matter of spiritual practice and not religious blind simple faith or devotion. You cannot get to God if you have an ’ego’! Christians who think otherwise have a corrupt mind and have no understanding about the Fall of Adam and why the son-of-God became the son-of-Adam!
We Chinese are not a religious people in the ‘gweilo’ corruption sense of it. We are a practical, pragmatic and spiritual people. One is judged by one’s deeds rather than what one profess to be or believe. We are quite parochial and do not seek hegemony or domination of other people or have eyes on their territory or interfere in their internal affairs. In layman’s terms we do nor seek or wish to compel others to think or eat or dress or exercise like us. We do not care if they do not eat with chopsticks, drink soup from their bowl, slurp their noodles and porridge, pray with joss sticks, wear cheong-sum, practise tai-chi or wing-chun, or read Tao Te-Ching, Chuan-Tzu or Wen-Tzu or the Heart Sutra or the Diamond Sutra or the Platform Sutra.
I could go on, but I think it should suffice for now, to realise that the ‘gweilo’ culture and psyche and philosophical foundations for what is justice, moral, equitable, fairness, honour, and many other fronts or forms are not necessarily congruent with our Three Pillars of Society. The West with its quest for supremacy and hegemony and its pride and arrogance would want the Chinese to change. We have a duty to manage any change so that it does not end up with us being caught ‘In the Muddle of a Quagmire of an Enigma of Change’.
Accordingly, Liang and Observer, get over the infighting and focus on the real enemies – the Chow Lees of these world – the ‘bananas’ and the ‘gweilos’.
