China Wednesday protested to Manila over a tense standoff between the Philippines' biggest warship and two Chinese surveillance vessels in the South China Sea, which was still continuing at press time.

Liang's comment:

Standoff in S. China Sea: Time for China to use force

It appears that Chinese government has finally realized that it is not possible to maintain peace in the S. China Sea by goodwill and diplomacy. I say it is about time for China to use force to defend its sovereign territories. There really isn't much to say anymore. The time for defending Chinese sovereign territories in the S. China Sea was already long past. The weak protests and pleading for joint development are both cowardly and inconsistent with China's claim of sovereignty over this region. It is obvious that only force can defend China's sovereignty. I hope the time has finally come for China to back up its sovereignty claim with judicious use of force.

If Philippines sent naval vessels to harm Chinese fishermen operating in China's sovereign territorial seas then China must respond with its own naval vessels and use whatever force necessary both to safeguard the Chinese fishermen and the naval vessels themselves. If the Philippines start shooting then China must respond in kind and in force to sink the Filipino naval vessels as soon as possible. Furthermore, if the Filipino government didn't call back its naval vessels then China must issue an ultimatum for it to get out of Chinese territorial water within 72 hours with the promise of use of force at the end of that period. At the expiration of the ultimatum period the Chinese government will issue a final warning for the Filipino ships to be abandoned by their crews. Then Chinese missiles will be launched to sink these invading ships. It is unseemly for China to be hobbled and humiliated by a piddling little country such as Philippines. Of course, China should respect the rights of Philippines. But when Philippines start to invade Chinese territories, then China should slap it down with force. The idiotic soft power has not increased the security of China's fishermen but has only put them in greater danger. Now even Palau has started killing Chinese fishermen. The blood of the Chinese fishermen will be on the head of the Chinese government if it still irrationally persist in pleading for peace.

I and all Chinese patriots are watching this with close interest. I hope the Chinese government will not back down again and bring more shame to the Chinese people and the Chinese nation.
