This is senseless gallivanting journalism again without the proper perspective historical as well as regional.
China is saying - [1] do not come to the table bringing maps drawn by your colonial masters - bring maps like we do based on our Asian past before the Whiteman [2] China is claiming marine supervisory territorial control in a political military sovereignty sense of the South China Sea [Zone of Political Influence and Control] but that economically it is 'open' to sharing 'economic' benefits with its immediate neighbours in the disputed areas. This might appear a novelty but it was not so in the past where Asian neighbours paid a nominal 'gold leaf' tribute each year, but otherwise they were not 'colonised', they were just acknowledging who is patrolling the neighbourhood!.
