唐朝詩 Poems from Tang Dynasty (618AD to 907AD0 (01)

李商隱之詩 A poem by Li Shangyin (813AD to 858AD)

七月二十九日崇讓宅 (*1A) 宴作
A feast at the residence of Song Rang on the 29th of the 7th Month

露如微霰下前池,---Lu4 ru2 wei xian4(*2B) xia4 qian2 chi2,
風過迴塘萬竹悲.---Feng guo4 hui2 tang2 wan4 zhu2 bei.
浮世本來多聚散,---Fu2 shi4 ben3 lai2 duo ju4 san4,
紅蕖何事亦離披.---Hong2 qu2(*3C) he2 shi4 yi4 li2 pi.

悠揚歸夢惟燈見,---You yang2(*4D) gui meng4 wei2 deng jian4,
濩落生涯獨酒知.---Huo4 luo4(*5E) sheng ya2 du2 jiu3 zhi.
豈到白頭長只爾?--Qi3 dao4 bai2 tou2 chang2 zhi3 er3(*6F)?
嵩陽松雪有心期.---Songyang (*7G) song xue3 you3 xin qi.

The explanations in plain Chinese and English.

(1) 一陣晚風吹過曲折的池塘邊, 拂動茂密的竹林,
A burst of night breeze blew past the tortuous pond bank, shaking the dense
bamboo grove,
(2) 那像細小雪珠的露水也被紛紛颳落池中, 蕭蕭的竹葉勝彷彿陣陣悲鳴.
Those small dew like tiny snow on the bamboo were being blown dropping into
the pond and the bamboo trees produced soughs and sighs sound as if crying
sadly.
(3) 浮世本來就有很多聚聚散散的事.
There were many gatherings and separations in life,
(4) 但是, 那紅蓮花又為什麼也那樣萎落離散呢?
But, why the red lotus flowers withered and dropped off scattering?

(5) 唉! 我那長久而綿遠的歸家之夢, 往往只有燈兒看見.
Oh! Only the lamp could see my dream of wanting to go home for a long time,
(6) 我那失意無用的生涯, 也只有酒能夠瞭解啊!
My life had become useless after the thwarting of my aspirations and only
the wine could understand me.
(7) 但是, 難道我一直到年老都這樣過下去嗎?
But, was I going to live like this until I grew old?
(8) 不, 我期望自己能抱著堅貞清白的情操, 最後歸隱於嵩陽.
No, I hoped I could have the sentiment of faith and pure to return to Songyang
to live.

李商隱家河南鄭州﹐地近嵩山﹐故有歸隱嵩陽之期望。
松雪﹐以喻自己節操之堅貞清白。
