Hmmm, well which is it Tom? "Lectured and humilated" or a "success"? You keep changing your mind. At the end of the day it cannot be both...objectively speaking.

Nothing mysterious Xi got "Lectured and humilated" for a couple of days that's why he got so pissed off so he left the White House to travel and do something else. He[Xi]himself thinks it was a success so you are right just give him the benefit of the doubt. lol.
I think whatever personal trip the 2countries make will tie the knot between the 2ppl. China is rising.

I believe it.

"""Lectured and humilated" or a "success"?""

Can anybody explain to me how someone who has disowned his ancestry can act like this towards his ancestral land, so bitterly? Beyond my feeble comprehension.

You are a clairvoyant after the effect. The 'travel and do something else' were already arranged well before the trip! Watching Xi's smiling face, he was amused more than p!ssed off by the clown American Vice President.

A lot of concession had been made..to the film and CD industry..it's a loss for the chinese free market system..I think.
The visit had been totally unecessary and close to disaster.

Dear all,

Of course it was a huge success.

China put in the largest order for American soybeans ever, allowed for more American movies to be shown in China, signed a deal for Huawei to buy a lot of American tech components made in California, and announced a deal for Dreamworks to build a movie studio in China.

It's got America salivating at the idea of selling agricultural products to China.

Xi also got to visit the Staples Center where Los Angeles' mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, alongside Earvin 'Magic' Johnson, presented him with a Laker jersey . ;-0

I wonder if the richest Lakers owner, Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong, was there or not. ;-0

For those of you who don't know who Soon-Shiong is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patrick_Soon-Shiong Wikipedia entry for "Patrick Soon-Shiong".

http://espn.go.com/blog/los-angeles/lakers/post/_/id/23349/qa-with-the-richest-lakers-owner-dr-patrick-soon-shiong A November 9, 2011 interview with Soon-Shiong titled "Q&A with the richest Lakers owner, Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong".

From the article:

While he prefers not to be in the spotlight, it’s hard to keep a low-profile when you are the richest man in Los Angeles and one of the 40 richest men in the country with a net worth of over $7 billion.

XXXXXX

Wow!!!!!

I didn't know the richest man in Los Angeles, the second largest city in America, is Dr. Soon-Shiong. ;-0

And he's one of the 40 richest men in the US?!?!?! ;-0

http://www.asiawind.com/forums/read.php?f=11&i=146383&t=146383 A thread titled "Magic Johnson Sells His Stake In Lakers To Chinese Billionaire". ;=0

What Kobo wrote at the thread:

For perspective, Soon-Shiong is richer than Tiger Woods (dude really f'cked up his marriage and career in one fell swoop), Richard Branson (of Virgin), J.K. Rowling (of Harry Potter), Donald Trump (of funny hair), Oprah Winfrey (of on-again off-again weight gain), Mark Cuban (of Dallas Mavericks), and George Lucas (of Star Wars).

Soon-Shiong is only half a billion below Steve Jobs of Apple Computer, the maker of the iPad, iPhone, iPod, Mac computers, etc.

-----

Kobo wonders if Soon-Shiong might not be the richest UCLA professor.

At $5 billion he's certainly richer than Broadcom co-founder and Anaheim Ducks owner Henry Samueli who's dropped below $2 billion and is ranked #582.

XXXXXX

Samueli, for those who don't know, is also a UCLA professor. ;-0

Well, now that we know Soon-Shiong is the richest man in L.A....it obviously follows that he's also UCLA's richest professor. ;-)

Soon-Shiong's South African. Just like Charlize Theron. ;-)

As many of you know, all of Kobo's siblings have retired and quite a few of them volunteer at UCLA.

Well, they tell me that they've seen Dr. Soon-Shiong at the water polo matches with his bodyguards.

It seems that the doctor's son is on the UCLA water polo team so the good doctor goes to the games when they play in town. ;-0

My siblings also tell me that he's Taishanese. ;-)

And that he's got a huge spread in the San Fernando Valley and that he quietly bought out the surrounding properties to greatly expand his mansion. ;-0

......and so goes the usual international etiquette between states that when Xi is properly sworn in for acting so friendly and peace loving despite the extremely belligerent USofA.....the Norway Nobel Peace Prize boys should have Xi be awarded the Peace Prize the day he is sworn in.
(Incidentally, whatever is delaying the Norway Nobel people to rectify the mistake in having Oba awarded the Peace Nobel ?! )

XXXXXX

Yeah, but they're going to buy so much more. The soybean deal is supposed to be a record amount. ;-0

From the midwest to California and Texas, American farmers, they're all hoping to provide more foodstuff for the Chinese.

They want some of the little green pieces of paper back. ;-0

That's tremendous. ;-0

I hear California is trying to get the Chinese to buy their table wine, almonds, etc.

Even Australia and Canada, sheep, cattle, etc. ;-0

All feeding the Chinese. ;-0

It's better than hearing stories like those coming from India of where half their children are malnourished and have stunted development. ;-0

And I don't believe in cultural suicide. I think the Cultural Revolution did more damage to traditional Chinese culture than any Hollywood movies will ever do.

There's been a great revival in interest in traditional Chinese culture among the Chinese and the Internet is helping to spread the word to the Chinese.

Recently I was researching an old poem and I couldn't believe there are so many sites on Chinese poetry.

I can't even believe that Chinese political activists write poems. Like that blogger who was arrested for a poem.

A poem!?!?!?! ;-0

Like Mao said, let a hundred flowers bloom, let a hundred schools of thought contend. ;-0

Kobo doesn't worry. ;-)

Foodstuff buying from countries worldwide is yearly event as countrymen need to eat.
But regarding the wholesale import of Hollywood you have to compare first with Iranian and Jews even European to see if they would be willing to do the same, I'd say not in a million year. At best China will become a Bollywood, but number 2, India took number 1. lol

XXXXX

You mean Israel and Europe doesn't import American films. ;0

Ha ha ha ha.

Then how come all those French magazines like Paris Match always have Hollywood celebs on the cover. ;-)

I think maybe Iran is the only one that doesn't import Hollywood films but only because of some silly sanctions.

Kobo doesn't really want China to export her movies to audiences other than for Chinese.

Though, I do believe there is an audience for Chinese TV dramas in Southeast Asia though. ;-0

But then Kobo's not really into soap operas. ;-0

I remember reading where Uzbekistan is trying to limit the telenovelas from Mexico and Latin America. ;-0

Most don't get Chinese history so wouldn't enjoy them anyway.

The only movies coming from China that might have commercial appeal in the West are martial arts films but then we've seen too many of them already.

It seems that the only movies to come out of China are mostly historical costume dramas heavy with CGI kung fu. Not even as good as the Bruce Lee films of the 70s.

At least Bruce's moves were believeable. ;-0

I mean when I was a youngster I would imitate his moves and all but the stuff nowadays are just fantastical. ;-0

Climbing on walls and jumping ten feet up into the air and flying backwards. :shaking head smilie:

Still it's better than those Bollywood films where everybody is singing and dancing in unison. ;-0

Moving their heads back and forth. ;-0

I'm sure all American youngsters want to learn martial arts but nobody wants to dance and sing like a Bollywood star. ;-)

Almost reminds Kobo of the Bangles video for "Walk Like An Egyptian". ;-0

Another success for Xi was that he came across as a rather laid-back easy-going type of guy. The papers were really impressed with him as the trip wore on. ;-0

The VP did a good job if it can bring the food price in china down down i.e. get cheaper food products from the US which is what he is doing now to meet margin needs.

In an article I read about China buying the record single day soybean sale, it said that China is America's #1 purchaser of her agricultural products. ;-0

That kind of amazed Kobo.

I'll try to find the article when I've time. ;-)

I think I read that China's also Australia's number one purchaser of agricultural products. ;-0

I fully agree with you. The easiest way to conquer China by corrupting the mind of the youngs, without having to spend any money, but on the contrary by making money, to 'win' over and enslave China. How dangerous!

I have a great older movie for you to watch if you ever get the chance. "The Sand Pebbles" with Steve McQueen. It is a true testament to US colonial imperialism in China. A great movie of the valiant American trying to save the savage Chinese from himself...but at the time it was made 99% of Americans would not see the ignorance and arrogance of this movie. It is truly a great movie..mad about 50 years ago.

what he means is that @!#$ gook kungfu yellow peril type of stereotyping again..things to avoid on a movie set..above all:

"@!#$": Pejorative; do not use in a context involving an Asian person on someone who is Asian American. Extreme care is needed if using the well-trod phrase "@!#$ in the armor"; be mindful that the context does not involve Asia, Asians or Asian Americans. (hey did ESPN fired its employees for that?)
