Dear all,

The standard joke amongst Indians themselves is: which is the longest toilet in the world? and the answer is THE INDIAN RAILWAY. Apparently half of the Indian population does not have access to toilets and the Indian Railway line over 100,000 km long, has become a massive public toilet. It has been mentioned that India would need to build concrete walls segregating the public from the railway line should India contemplates to build high speed railways.

I read somewhere that the toilets on the trains are open so all the feces and urine drop down directly onto the tracks.
The corrosive nature of the waste damages the wooden rails and ties so that they're always being replaced.
