白居易的詩 A poem by Bai Juyi (772AD to 846AD)

宮詞 [*1A] Palace poetry
(這是一首描寫失寵宮女哀怨的詩)

淚盡羅巾夢不成,---Lei4 jin4 luo2 jin meng bu4 cheng2,
夜深前殿按歌聲.---Ye4 shen qian2 dian4 an4 ge [*2B] sheng.
紅顏未老恩先斷,---Hong2 yan2(*3C) wei4 lao3 en xian duan4,
斜倚薰籠坐到明.---xie2 yi3 xun long2(*4D) zuo4 dao4 ming2(*5E).

The explanations in plain Chinese and English.

(1) 她, 流盡了眼淚, 眼淚沾溼了絲帕, 但怎麼勉強自己, 卻總是睡不著覺.
She cried until her tears dried up, wetting her handkerchief, yet she could
not get to sleep,
(2) 這時候, 夜已深沉, 前殿卻仍然隱隱傳來有節奏的歌聲.
It was deep at night and she could hear the music and songs coming from
the front hall.
(3) 啊! 她的美麗還沒有衰遲, 而國君的恩寵卻已先斷絕了.
Oh! she was still very beautiful and why the Monarch rejected her love.
(4) 她又能怎麼辦? 只有斜靠著薰籠, 從夜晚坐到天亮啊!
What was her going to do? Except sitting in front of an urn, made of fragrant
flowers, burning incense, from night until the next morning.

Notes:
(*1A) 宮詞
古典中寫宮廷情事之詩﹐多一宮詞為題。

(*2B) 按歌 = 依調而歌

(*3C) 紅顏 = 稱年輕美貌的女子。

(*4D) 薰籠
古人以竹籠覆蓋香鑪﹐披衣物於其上﹐以薰染香氣及暖氣。
此處[倚薰籠]﹐即為取暖之用。

(*5E) 明 = 天明。
